So…that could have gone better.

I attended a book fair today for self published authors. I ‘sold’ one book. (It was really a barter. I swapped books with a fellow attendee.) So, for hours, I sat awkwardly in a small basement room with 12 other self published authors. For those that know me, I think you can picture it–seated in a corner, squirming, avoiding eye contact. There was a particularly awkward scene when a fellow introverted author tried to talk to me. Poor man should have stayed with the chattier authors.

I was glad when I swapped books with Dan. I had something to read! My most lengthy conversation was with an author about the Mets. I think he was surprised by my vast knowledge on steroids, Ralph Kiner, and the Hall of Fame. (For those friends and beta readers who are muttering their admonishments, I did say hello to the one customer who came by. Everyone else who visited the basement was friends and family of the authors!)

Friends, via text, tried to encourage me. My favorite was”You are a successful author…” I think he and I have different definitions of success:)

People have ghost writers. Could someone go as me to these events?

My parents and a friend came to show their support. My father was encouraging as always–“How much you pay for this?” No worries. The event was free.

Due to the readings running late, and my overwhelming nausea over the thought, I left prior to reading the first chapter of “Gone But Not Missed.”

Check out some of the other attendees —

Karen L Bonett –

Daniel R Cillis – Author of Statehood of Affairs

Phil Farina – Author of Gravesend

Melissa Kuch – Author of The Assumption

Cris Pasqueralle – Author of Destiny Revealed

J.B. Rafferty – Author of A Perfect Wave

Sorry to the other authors whose cards I either didn’t take or I lost!

If you live on Long Island, be sure to check out Turn of the Corkscrew Bookstore in Rockville Centre, NY. It is a lovely bookstore with a varied selection. It also has a spot to get food and wine.  Learn more at
